شَرُّ مَا شَغَلَ بِهِ الْمَرْءُ وَقْتَهُ الْفُضُولُ
The worst thing which a person occupies his time with is the superfluous

ضِيَاعُ الْعُقُولِ فِي طَلَبِ الْفُضُولِ
The wastage of intellects is in seeking the superfluous

طَاعَةُ الْجَهُولِ وَكَثْرَةُ الْفُضُولِ تَدُلَّانِ عَلَى الْجَهْلِ
Obedience to the foolish and being excessive [in speech or action] are two signs of ignorance

مَنْ أَمْسَكَ عَنِ الْفُضُولِ عَدَّلَتْ رَأْيَهُ الْعُقُولُ
Whoever restrains himself from the superfluous, his view is harmonized by the intellects

مَنِ اشْتَغَلَ بِالْفُضُولِ فَاتَهُ مِنْ مُهِمَّةِ الْمَأْمُولِ
Whoever occupies himself with the superfluous, the important matter that he hopes for eludes him

اقْصِرْ هِمَّتَكَ عَلَى مَا يَلْزَمُكَ وَلَا تَخُضْ فِيمَا لَا يَعْنِيكَ
Confine your endeavour to that which is necessary for you and do not enter into that which does not concern you

اقْصِرْ رَأْيَكَ عَلَى مَا يَلْزَمُكَ تَسْلَمْ وَدَعِ الْخَوْضَ فِيمَا لَا يَعْنِيكَ تُكْرَمْ
Restrict your opinion to that which is necessary and you will be safe; avoid entering into that which does not concern you and you will be honoured

أَعْرِضُوا عَنْ كُلِّ عَمَلٍ بِكُمْ غِنًى عَنْهُ وَاشْغَلُوا أَنْفُسَكُمْ مِنْ أَمْرِ الْآخِرَةِ بِمَا لَا بُدَّ لَكُمْ مِنْهُ
Eschew every action that you are in no need of and busy yourself with the affair of the Hereafter, which you must [eventually] face

أَكْبَرُ الْكُلْفَةِ تَعَنِّيكَ فِيمَا لَا يَعْنِيكَ
The greatest inconvenience is troubling yourself with that which does not concern you

بِتَرْكِ مَا لَا يَعْنِيكَ يَتِمُّ لَكَ الْعَقْلُ
By leaving that which does not concern you, your intellect becomes complete

دَعْ مَا لَا يَعْنِيكَ وَاشْتَغِلْ بِمُهِمِّكَ الَّذِي يُنْجِيكَ
Leave aside that which does not concern you and busy yourself with the important work that will save you [in the Hereafter]

كَفَى بِالْمَرْءِ غَفْلَةً أَنْ يَصْرِفَ هِمَّتَهُ فِيمَا لَا يَعْنِيهِ
It is enough of negligence for a person to waste his efforts in that which does not concern [or benefit] him

مَنِ اشْتَغَلَ بِمَا لَا يَعْنِيهِ فَاتَهُ مَا يَعْنِيهِ
One who occupies himself with that which does not concern him loses that which is important to him

مَنِ اشْتَغَلَ بِغَيْرِ الْمُهِمِّ ضَيَّعَ الْأَهَمَّ
One who is occupied by the unimportant loses that which is more important

مَنْ أَتْعَبَ نَفْسَهُ فِيمَا لَا يَنْفَعُهُ وَقَعَ فِيمَا يَضُرُّهُ
Whoever troubles himself with that which does not benefit him gets caught in that which harms him

مَنِ اطَّرَحَ مَا يَعْنِيهِ وَقَعَ إِلَى مَا لَا يَعْنِيهِ
One who eliminates malice [from his heart], his heart and mind become relaxed

مَنِ اشْتَغَلَ بِغَيْرِ ضَرُورَتِهِ فَوَّتَهُ ذَلِكَ مَنْفَعَتَهُ
Whoever occupies himself with that which is unnecessary, it causes him to lose [what is more to] his benefit

وُقُوعُكَ فِيمَا لَا يَعْنِيكَ جَهْلٌ مُضِلٌّ
Your getting involved in that which is of no concern to you is misguided ignorance

لَا تَشْتَغِلْ بِمَا لَا يَعْنِيكَ وَلَا تَتَكَلَّفْ فَوْقَ مَا يَكْفِيكَ وَاجْعَلْ كُلَّ هَمِّكَ لِمَا يُنْجِيكَ
Do not busy yourself with that which is of no concern to you, and do not take upon yourself more than what is enough for you, and exert all your efforts for that which will save you
