الشَّهْوَةُ تُغْرِي
Lust entices

امْنَعْ نَفْسَكَ مِنَ الشَّهَوَاتِ تَسْلَمْ مِنَ الْآفَاتِ
Restrain your soul from lustful desires and you will remain safe from calamities

اهْجُرُوا الشَّهَوَاتِ فَإِنَّهَا تَقُودُكُمْ إِلَى رُكُوبِ الذُّنُوبِ وَالتَّهَجُّمِ عَلَى السَّيِّئَاتِ
Turn your back on lustful desires, for indeed they drive you to perform sinful acts and to fall upon evil deeds

إِيَّاكُمْ وَتَحَكُّمَ الشَّهَوَاتِ عَلَيْكُمْ فَإِنَّ عَاجِلَهَا ذَمِيمٌ وَآجِلَهَا وَخِيمٌ
Beware of allowing lustful desires to dominate you, for indeed its immediate result is dispraised and future consequence is detrimental

إِيَّاكُمْ وَغَلَبَةَ الشَّهَوَاتِ عَلَى قُلُوبِكُمْ فَإِنَّ بِدَايَتَهَا مَلَكَةٌ وَنِهَايَتَهَا هَلَكَةٌ
Beware of letting lustful desires overpower you hearts, for indeed its beginning is bondage and its end is destruction

أَزْرَى بِنَفْسِهِ مَنْ مَلَكَتْهُ الشَّهْوَةُ وَاسْتَعْبَدَتْهُ الْمَطَامِعُ
He who is controlled by lustful desires and enslaved by [worldly] aspirations has degraded his soul

أَضْيَقُ النَّاسِ حَالًا مَنْ كَثُرَتْ شَهْوَتُهُ وَكَبُرَتْ هِمَّتُهُ وَزَادَتْ مَئُونَتُهُ وَقَلَّتْ مَعُونَتُهُ
The person living in the most straitened circumstances is one whose desire is much, whose endeavour is great and whose provisions are plenty but his support is less

إِنَّكُمْ إِنْ مَلَّكْتُمْ شَهَوَاتِكُمْ نَزَتْ بِكُمْ إِلَى الْأَشَرِ وَالْغَوَايَةِ
Verily if you are controlled by your lustful desires, they will cause you to leap into frivolity and error

إِذَا أَبْصَرَتِ الْعَيْنُ الشَّهْوَةَ عَمِيَ الْقَلْبُ عَنِ الْعَاقِبَةِ
When the eye sees what is [lustfully] desired, the heart becomes blind to the consequence

إِذَا غَلَبَتْ عَلَيْكَ الشَّهْوَةُ فَاغْلِبْهَا بِالاخْتِصَارِ
When lust tries to overcome you then defeat it by curtailing excesses

بِمِلْكِ الشَّهْوَةِ التَّنَزُّهُ عَنْ كُلِّ عَابٍ
By controlling [one’s] lust, one becomes free of every flaw

زِيَادَةُ الشَّهْوَةِ تُزْرِي بِالْمُرُوءَةِ
Increased lust degrades magnanimity

ضِرَامُ الشَّهْوَةِ تَبْعَثُ [يَبْعَثُ] عَلَى تَلَفِ الْمُهْجَةِ
The flame of lust induces the impairment [and destruction] of the soul

غَلَبَةُ الشَّهْوَةِ تُبْطِلُ الْعِصْمَةَ وَتُورِدُ الْهُلْكَ
Being overpowered by lust nullifies preservation [of oneself from sin] and leads to destruction

قَالَ ع فِي مَنْ ذَمَّهُ قَدْ خَرَقَتِ الشَّهَوَاتُ عَقْلَهُ وَأَمَاتَتْ قَلْبَهُ وَوَلَّهَتْ عَلَيْهَا نَفْسَهُ
Desires have rent asunder his intellect and killed his heart while his mind is infatuated with them

قَرِينُ الشَّهْوَةِ مَرِيضُ النَّفْسِ مَعْلُولُ الْعَقْلِ
The associate of lust has a sick soul and a troubled mind

كَمْ مِنْ شَهْوَةٍ مَنَعَتْ رُتْبَةً
How many a lustful desire has prevented [one from attaining] a lofty status!

مَنْ زَادَتْ شَهْوَتُهُ قَلَّتْ مُرُوَّتُهُ

مَنْ غَلَبَتْ عَلَيْهِ شَهْوَتُهُ لَمْ تَسْلَمْ نَفْسُهُ
Whoever is overcome by his lust, his soul will not be safe

مَنْ أَهْمَلَ نَفْسَهُ فِي لَذَّاتِهَا شَقِيَ وَبَعُدَ
Whoever neglects his soul [as it indulges] in its pleasures becomes wretched and distanced [from the mercy of Allah]

مَنْ كَثُرَتْ شَهْوَتُهُ ثَقُلَتْ مَئُونَتُهُ
One whose lust increases, [the expense for] his provision becomes heavy

مَنْ غَرِيَ بِالشَّهَوَاتِ أَبَاحَ نَفْسَهُ الْغَوَائِلَ
One who is enticed by lustful desires permits his soul to be a target of calamities

غَلَبَةُ الشَّهْوَةِ أَعْظَمُ هُلْكٍ وَمِلْكُهَا أَشْرَفُ مِلْكٍ
Being overpowered by lust is the greatest destruction, and controlling it is the most honourable dominance

مَنْ لَمْ يُدَاوِ شَهْوَتَهُ بِالتَّرْكِ [لَهَا] لَمْ يَزَلْ عَلِيلًا
One who has not remedied his lust by abandoning it is still sick

لَا تُسْرِفْ فِي شَهْوَتِكَ وَغَضَبِكَ فَيُزْرِيَا بِكَ
Do not exceed the limits in your lust and anger as they will degrade you
