الحرص يذل و يشقى
الْحِرْصُ ذَمِيمُ الْمَغَبَّةِ
Greed has blameworthy consequences

Greed is a symbol of the wretched

الْحِرْصُ يُذِلُّ وَيُشْقِي
Greed humiliates and causes misery

الْحِرْصُ وَالشَّرَهُ يَكْسِبَانِ الشَّقَاءَ وَالذِّلَّةَ
Greed and gluttony earn wretchedness and humiliation

الْحَرِيصُ أَسِيرُ مَهَانَةٍ لَا يُفَكُّ أَسْرُهُ
The greedy one is a prisoner of disgrace, never to be freed from his prison

الْحِرْصُ ذُلٌّ وَمَهَانَةٌ لِمَنْ يَسْتَشْعِرُهُ
Greed is a disgrace and a humiliation for the one who espouses it

الْحِرْصُ أَحَدُ الشَّقَاءَيْنِ
Greed is one of the two miseries

الْحِرْصُ لَا يَزِيدُ فِي الرِّزْقِ وَلَكِنْ يُذِلُّ الْقَدْرَ
Greed does not increase sustenance, rather it debases one’s status

اتَّقُوا الْحِرْصَ فَإِنَّ صَاحِبَهُ [مُصَاحِبَهُ] رَهِينُ ذُلٍّ وَعَنَاءٍ
Be cautious of greed, for its possessor is subject to humiliation and suffering

إِيَّاكَ وَالْحِرْصَ فَإِنَّهُ شَيْنُ الدِّينِ وَبِئْسَ الْقَرِينُ
Be wary of greed, for it is a disgrace to the religion and the worst companion

أَعْظَمُ النَّاسِ ذُلًّا الطَّامِعُ الْحَرِيصُ الْمُرِيبُ
The most humiliated of all people is the greedy, suspicious, coveter

إِنَّكَ مُدْرِكٌ قِسْمَكَ وَمَضْمُونٌ رِزْقُكَ مُسْتَوْفٍ مَا كُتِبَ لَكَ فَأَرِحْ نَفْسَكَ مِنْ شَقَاءِ الْحِرْصِ وَمَذَلَّةِ الطَّلَبِ وَثِقْ بِاللَّهِ وَخَفِّضْ فِي الْمُكْتَسَبِ
Verily you will acquire your share your sustenance is guaranteed and that which has been decreed for you will be fulfilled, so spare yourself the trouble of the wretchedness of greed and the humiliation of seeking [from others]; trust in Allah and take it easy in your earning

عَبْدُ الْحِرْصِ مُخَلَّدُ الشَّقَاءِ
The slave of greed is eternally wretched

مَنْ كَثُرَ حِرْصُهُ ذَلَّ قَدْرُهُ
One whose greed increases, his status is lowered

مَنْ غَلَبَ عَلَيْهِ الْحِرْصُ عَظُمَتْ ذِلَّتُهُ
One who is overcome by greed faces great humiliation

مَنْ كَثُرَ حِرْصُهُ كَثُرَ شَقَاؤُهُ
One whose greed increases, his wretchedness [also] increases

مَا أَذَلَّ النَّفْسَ كَالْحِرْصِ
Nothing debases the self like greed

مُسْتَعْمِلُ الْحِرْصِ شَقِيٌّ مَذْمُومٌ
One who acts greedily is wretched and dispraised

لَا تُمَلِّكْ نَفْسَكَ بِغُرُورِ الطَّمَعِ وَلَا تُجِبْ دَوَاعِيَ الشَّرَهِ
Do not surrender yourself to the deception of covetousness and do not respond to the call of greed, for indeed these two [traits] reap wretchedness and disgrace
